Out to Put a Dent in the Multifamily Universe

A day recorded for future reference

I hope that all the readers of this blog would humor me by reading the following quote which spoke the world to me in this season of my life. Today marks a defining moment:

“The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on:nor all they Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy tears wash out a word of it.”

Thank you and tomorrow I promise to get back to the regular scheduled program. To each, have an amazing day and a great 8′ M

Wise Words to follow

Michael J. Fox once said, “I am careful not to confuse excellence with
perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God’s business.”

Prophets

There is no virtue in being uncritical nor is it a
habit to which the young are given. But criticism is only the burying beetle
that gets rid of what is dead, and, since the world lives by creative and
constructive forces, and not by negation and destruction, it is better to grow
up in the company of prophets than of critics.

-Richard Livingstone

Remember this the next time you think to criticize a class, training, or conference that you attend. How many of you take the time to offer either positive or negative feedback? How many of you take it one step further by providing well thought out written feedback in the comment section? I will be the first to say that I am guilty of disclosing my opinions in the 1 to 5 rating columns but when it comes time to write thoughts on how to make it better or different, I refrain.

Make your Apartment Property Insanely Great in 2008

I wanted to start the year of with a quote and this is the one I chose…

You
must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your
eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island opportunities and
look toward another land. There is no other land, there is no other
life but this.”

- Henry David Thoreau

Experts in Property Management

An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field.” Niels Bohr

I read somewhere that it takes a good 10 years of study and application in one specific niche to be considered an expert.

With that I wonder who you think are the experts in our field.

A Property Manager’s right…

[There is a] "difference between what you have the right to do, and what is the right thing to do." -Potter Stewart, U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

I have some thought about this relative to the apartment management business, however I would like to hear what you have to think.

Self Aware

"Being aware of yourself and how you affect everyone around you is what distinguishes  a superior leader." –Edie Seashore

So true. Have a great week and be aware that attitudes are contagious.

Feeling Used? It’s an Amazing way to live.

Question_mark
"This is the true joy of life, the being used up for a purpose
recognized by yourself as a mighty one; being a force of nature instead
of a feverish, selfish little clog of ailments and grievances,
complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy."
-George Bernard Shaw

Happiness is an inside job…the world will never make you happy!

Does Complaining Change the world?

"Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t change the world by saying, ‘I have a complaint.’ " — Artist Chris Jordan…

I think questioning the sacred cow’s changes the world but as the above quotes suggests complaining does not. I think the real implication here is ACTION. If you don’t like it, what ever it is, change it. Move on, plow forward, revise, rewind, re-imagine.

Have an amazing Friday. M

Leadership

This marks the 400th post at Property Management and I decided I wanted to keep it simple and share a favorite quote. I hope you enjoy it!

Leadership is a privilege to better the lives of others. It is not an opportunity to satisfy personal greed. -Mwai Kibaki
