Apartment pest control

I received some feedback on the Moth balls and bugs post yesterday and because I’m not sure of the answer I decided to throw it out to the group. Here is the feedback – courtesy of Nathan.

“Thanks for sharing…we will have to try that out at our property!
 Any ideas how to get rid of a huge cloud of knats that are hanging out
just outside of my models front door! :) ”

What I would say is that there has to be a source. I know when I see knats in my home I immediately go to the fruit bowl I keep, more times than not I have to throw something out. It usually solves the problem.

Are there any other thoughts out there relative to this problem?

    The type of gnats that you are seeing out doors is more than likely fungus gnats. These gnats are very different from fruit flies that you are referring to that are around your fruit bowl. Now since I own a pest control company I could jump to say you need to call a professional, however I will refrain from being biased and tell you to save yourself from the smell of moth balls which in all reality is a chemical named naphthalene, but due to naphthalene’s flammability, modern mothballs use 1,4-dichlorobenzene instead. Both of these ingredients have a strong, pungent odor often associated strongly with mothballs.

    So with that being said I would would recommend going to your local Ace, Home Depot, Lowes or even Wal-mart and getting a product with Peremithrin as the active ingredient. This chemical can be connected to a hose and sprayed on the lawn close by or on the building walls themselves and will repel the insects but also kill the ones that are landing on the building. This treatment will last up to 3 months but may be repeated as often as once a month. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact me at rapidpestcontrol@aol.com

    We have a major problem with roaches, we have monthly schedueld service and the roaches seem to be getting worse. We bait and spray 1/2 of the property a month.

    Help!!
